The 5-year-old boy killed in a car crash on Milwaukee’s northwest side Friday evening has been identified as Jaylen Sloan of Milwaukee, according to police. Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Jaylen and his twin brother were in a vehicle driven by their 34-year-old father. The 5-year-old twins were taken to Children’s Hospital with “serious injuries,” Milwaukee police said Friday evening.

Jaylen died from his injuries on Sunday morning. His twin brother is expected to survive, the medical examiner’s report said.

The report states that it is believed the boys were not wearing their seat belts and that witnesses say the father was drinking before driving the vehicle.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and then taken into custody. The Milwaukee County Prosecutor’s Office will review the charges.

According to Milwaukee police, the fatal crash happened Friday around 8 p.m. on the 8100 block of West Hampton Avenue. The father was driving west on West Hampton Avenue and collided with two parked, unoccupied vehicles and a tree before coming to a stop.

He was driving a maroon 1999 Ford Expedition. According to the medical examiner’s narrative report, speed was a factor in the crash. The report says the collision was “head-on” and that Jaylen “may have been ejected from the vehicle.”

A balloon release is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the intersection of North 81 Street and West Hampton Avenue.
