Two pedestrians struck: man killed, teen critical in separate crashes on Long Island

Two pedestrians were struck, one fatally, in separate accidents on Long Island Monday evening.

Shortly after 11 p.m., a male pedestrian was struck by a 2004 Ford Explorer southbound on Sheridan Boulevard near Nassau Avenue in Inwood, Nassau police said.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name is being withheld pending word from the man’s family.

The driver of the Ford remained at the scene. An investigation is underway, police said.

A few hours earlier, around 9:10 p.m., in North Amityville, a 17-year-old was walking on the New Highway at the intersection of Pine Road when he was struck by a southbound 2007 Toyota Prius.

The North Amityville teen was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Suffolk police said.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured and remained at the scene.

The vehicle was seized for a security check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
