‘OMITB’ Finale Set Up a Cruel Season 5: Who’s the Killer?

‘OMITB’ Finale Set Up a Cruel Season 5: Who’s the Killer?

(This story contains major spoilers from the Only murders in the building season four finale.)

Finally, We know who killed Sazz Patakiand why. Unfortunately, there is no time for relief, because late last year another body fell to the ground Only murders in the building season.

The series finale concluded season four with the reveal of Jin Ha’s stuntman-turned-writer, Marshall P Popeas the finger behind the trigger, and the person responsible for shooting and killing Sazz (Jane Lynch) last season. The motive: steal Sazz’s screenplay about the trio starring the Arconia and pass it off as his own. Produced and released in the wake of the 2023 WGA strike, Pope’s role as murderer is a commentary on the power of writing and the lengths some will go to silence artistry, while also wearing a hat for industry veterans such as stunt workers who often go unrecognized. .

Pope’s role in this came into focus in the penultimate episode, which is a bit of a tradition Only murders tradition. However, it is often accompanied by an illuminating twist in the finale. Not this year; Pope is the murderer, and he did it all alone. Case closed, simple enough.

The murder of the already renewed for season five. In the closing moments of the season, Charles (Steve Martin), Olivier (Martijn Kort) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) walk through the courtyard of Arconia and discover a murder victim, albeit just outside the building: old doorman Lester, played by Teddy Coluca. The episode ends with the big three outside, panicking as they call for help, while Lester’s lifeless body bleeds out into a redwater fountain. It’s quite a gruesome sight Only murders standards, leaving the door open for a charged investigation in season five.

Who killed Lester? Yes, we’re already asking that question, because it’s never too early to put suspects on the murder board. As we leave seasons four and five, we can take some big names with us and list (and probably eliminate) them already. Examples include:

Jan Bellows: Amy Ryan’s original serial killer from season one struck again in season four, giving us a rare second murder in the building in the same season. However, immediately after shooting and killing Marshall P. Pope from a distance, Jan returns to police custody. Could she have somehow avoided them in time to kill Lester? It feels pretty unlikely, but at the same time it feels silly to exclude the only living person who has killed on this show and actually likes it. Besides, as she tells Charles in her final season four moment, “You and I are endgame!”

Canning Cinda: Tina Fey’s podcaster was completely absent from season four. In season two, she was the most likely suspect on the board heading into the finale, but then it was revealed that her protege Poppy was the actual killer. Could Cinda return after a full season on the ice to finally put her killing money where her killing mouth is? We still have to find out who owns the Moriarity Only murders in the building is, and Cinda is as suspect as anyone in that regard.

Uma Heller: Jackie Hoffman’s curly neighbor is probably our top pick. She has lived in the Arconia as long as any other character we know on the show. She hates Charles, Oliver and Mabel. And you could argue that the podcast investigation in season one directly led to her friend Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell) being murdered in the season one finale. If any resident of the Arconia has a reason to want these three people dead, it would be Uma. Why would she want Lester dead? That’s the big mystery…

Howard Morris: There’s another member of the Arconia community worth checking out: Howard by Michael Cyril Creighton. Largely absent from the action in season four despite being a series regular, Howard is someone who should always be on the suspect list just because of his longevity on the series. He was one of the very first suspects in season one and he should remain a suspect until proven guilty, while there is talk of a ‘Moriarty’ in the building – although, if he is a murderer, he probably is. killed his own cat in season one, which is a pretty dark turn for the character. Darker than killing Lester? Depends on what skeletons the dead doorman has in his closet…

Who does You Do you think Lester was murdered?
