CHURCHVILLE, NY – Monroe County has announced a new accessible boat launch designed for kayakers and canoeists.

The launch will take place at Black Creek in Churchville Park and is specifically designed for those with walkers, wheelchairs or other items that prevent them from using the normal launch location.

County leaders say they don’t want this to stop people from enjoying the world around them.

“Because you know that for some people a trip in the water is simply a recreational activity. But for many people it is also that connection with nature. It is a moment of rest, and it is also a form of physiotherapy. This accessible canoe and kayak launch removes barriers, giving more of our residents the opportunity to participate and benefit from outdoor recreation. Accessible infrastructure strengthens our community by ensuring public spaces are accessible to all,” said County Executive Adam Bello.

They add that it also gives strollers and parents with young children the chance to get in touch with their wild side.
