New details on fatal choking incident involving a Naples student

NAPLES, Fla. – FOX 4 has obtained an incident report detailing a choking incident at Laurel Oaks Elementary School on Oct. 17 – told from the perspective of the juvenile deputy on duty.

The deputy says she was called to the cafeteria for a medical emergency.

Once in the canteen, she says in her statement that she found the student motionless.

A nurse’s assistant was seen holding a Life Vac, frantically saying, “It’s not working.”

The deputy called for emergency services and said she performed the Heimlich maneuver; however, the student was not conscious and not breathing.

An AED was obtained, the director was notified and several staff members assisted with chest compressions.

EMS arrived on scene and took over the emergency room.

The student was taken to NCH-Noord for further treatment.
