Homeless man accused of sexually assaulting woman in Abilene dorm, slitting random person’s throat

ABILENE, TexasKTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in an Abilene dormitory and then slitting the throat of a random person sleeping outside later that day has been arrested.

Charlie Torres Jr. was taken into custody on Monday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and indecent assault in connection with the incidents, which both occurred on the same day in July 2023.

Court documents show that a victim reported that he was sleeping on the sidewalk in front of a 7-Eleven when he was awakened by a suspect, later identified as Torres, “leaning over him and slit his throat with what he believed to be a knife was.”

The victim was in pain and visible injuries that were still bleeding when officers arrived on scene, the documents show.

Shortly after the crime, the documents state that Torres was contacted at a Whataburger for telling people there that he had “slit someone’s throat.” He also told officers that he had used the toilet to wash blood from his hands.

Torres was identified by the victim as the suspect who cut him, the documents show.

Earlier that day, police had been called to a second incident involving Torres. A victim reported that she was in her dorm room when a strange man, later identified as Torres, entered the building.

The documents show that the victim asked him to leave several times, but he refused and even tried to convince her to move into a room with him.

When she didn’t, the documents say Torres grabbed her, tried to kiss her and began touching her inappropriately.

Torres fled the scene before officers arrived, but he was identified through security footage, which shows most of the attack.

He remains in jail on bail totaling $64,000.
