Israel-Gaza-Lebanon live updates: 110 dead, including 25 children, in attack on Gaza

The Biden administration is “deeply troubled” by the Israeli parliament’s vote to sharply limit the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees, State Department spokesman Matt Miller said Tuesday.

“It could halt UNRWA’s activities in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. It poses risks to millions of Palestinians who rely on UNRWA for essential services, including health care and primary and secondary education,” Miller said.

“Especially in Gaza right now they are playing a role that, at least today, no one else can do. They are a key partner in providing food, water and other humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza that no one else could provide. if UNRWA were to disappear,” Miller said.

Miller said the US had “made clear our opposition to this bill” to Israeli authorities and said there could be “consequences under US law and policy for the implementation of this legislation.”

“We will be engaging with the government of Israel in the coming days about how they plan to implement this. We’re going to see if there are any legal challenges to the law, and if these legal challenges have any impact. and then we will make our decisions after looking at all those facts,” Miller said.
