Ocala man arrested, charged with stealing Marion County Sheriff’s Office car

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – A man is in the Marion County Jail after stealing a car from Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Officers arrived on SE 59th St., where they found James Brady, 41, in a field Saturday.

According to the arrest report, Brady admitted to using drugs and said, “You better lock your doors.” I like stealing cars.”

Bodycam video shows officers talking about rehabilitation resources for Brady at nearby facilities if he needs help. Brady then tells the officers to back up twenty feet before running toward the vehicles.

A chase began along S Pine Ave. Officers performed a pit maneuver at the intersection of MLK Jr. Ave. and College Road, where Brady was arrested.

TV20 contacted MCSO for comment. The leaders shared their Vehicle Use Policy, which requires employees to keep their vehicles locked when unattended.

In February, three people were killed when 33-year-old Kendra Boone stole an officer’s car and crashed into another vehicle.
