Dobson announces coalition of 345 women leaders and activists to boost congressional campaign

The campaign of Alabama Republican congressional candidate Caroleene Dobson will reach out to hundreds of women leaders and activists in the final days of the campaign to get voters to the polls.

Dobson’s campaign announced in a press release Tuesday a new “Women for Dobson” coalition, made up of 345 women who are leaders, community activists and others. The women will “work to push voters to the polls in the final week of the campaign,” the press release said.

Dobson said in a statement that she was humbled by the support of the women who will help her campaign in the final week before the Nov. 5 election. Dobson faces Democratic opponent Shomari Figures in what is considered the most competitive race on Alabama’s November ballot.

“Working together, we can fix DC’s broken system, prioritize these issues that really matter to the residents of the Second Congressional District, and bring better days ahead for all Americans,” Dobson said in a statement .

The formation of the coalition comes aAbortion and reproductive rights have received attention during the campaign season. Dobson is in favor of allowing states to decide on the right to abortion, and that there should be exceptions for cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother. She has also said she supports in vitro fertilization, adding that the IVF process “makes the miracle of life possible for those who never thought they would ever be able to have children or start a family.”

Among Dobson’s supporters in the new coalition is Montgomery County Commissioner Ronda Walker, who said she expects Dobson — if elected — “will bring practical, common sense solutions” to Alabama families.

“As women, mothers and community members, we understand what is at stake in this election,” Montgomery County Commission member Ronda Walker said in a statement. “She listens to women’s concerns and knows how important it is to have someone in Washington who will stand up for families, our faith and our future.”

Shallie Garrison, former executive director of the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce and community volunteer, said Dobson’s intelligence and commitment to finding workable solutions to the problems facing the U.S. prompted her to join the coalition.

“She clearly understands the needs of our district and has the intelligence, energy and dedication to make a difference,” Garrison said in a statement.

Dobson’s creation of the coalition comes as Figures has invited several national Democrats to visit Alabama during the final week of the campaign. Democratic U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas joined the Figures campaign on Sunday at an event in Montgomery, and Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder was also in Mobile campaigning on Monday.

New York Democratic U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the House minority leader, is expected to be in Montgomery on Thursday to campaign on the numbers.

The Figures campaign was not immediately available Tuesday to comment on Dobson’s coalition that also includes Debra Davis, a cattle ranch operator near Troy. Dobson, whose family has deep agricultural roots in Alabama, is approved by the Alabama Farmers Federation.

“Caroleene Dobson is not just any candidate; she truly cares about the challenges we face, whether it’s the rising cost of living or balancing work and family,” Davis said.
