Tulsa police identify man involved in officer-involved shooting

Tulsa police identified the person involved in the shooting “suicide by cop”. on Monday.

Police said 39-year-old Kyle Miller contacted his child at a local high school and expressed suicidal thoughts.

Miller said he intended to force a situation with police, which the department said would lead to his death.

Officers went to Miller’s home to provide mental health support, but he jumped into his truck and nearly hit officers in an attempt to start a chase.

When the officers didn’t take action and followed him from a distance, Miller drove around the block, returned to his driveway and ran inside.

Police contacted Miller by phone and said he had a loaded gun.

Miller then walked out of his house and shot inside and in front of his truck.

While on the phone, Miller reportedly told officers to come get him while he was still shooting.

Police spent more than 30 minutes convincing Miller to surrender peacefully.

Around 3:40 p.m., Miller pointed his gun at officers, prompting two officers to fire their guns and hit Miller.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives collect evidence and statements.

The two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as per standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
