SC State Fair Announces 0,000 Donation to Nonprofits for Hurricane Helene Recovery

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – The South Carolina State Fair has announced they are donating a total of $200,000 to help those affected by Hurricane Helene.

The donation will be divided equally among four organizations: the Salvation Army of Greenville, Pickens and Oconee counties; The Salvation Army of Spartanburg; The Salvation Army of Aiken; and Samaritan’s wallet.

“Hurricane Helene has caused unprecedented devastation to many communities across our state,” said Nancy Smith, general manager of the South Carolina State Fair. “Our thoughts go out to those who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods. As a community-based organization, we are honored to support the vital recovery work being done by these organizations and hope these donations will make a meaningful difference in helping people rebuild their lives.”

Helene devastated the southeastern United States in late September, hitting South Carolina and surrounding areas with heavy rain and gusty winds. The storm is the strongest hurricane on record to hit Florida’s Big Bend.
