NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – A young New Haven man was one of the youngest delegates at the Democratic National Convention.

“It was so exciting to be in the room and I am so grateful for those who helped me get there. And have the means to go. It was really incredible.” said Jacob Schonberger, New Haven.

Schonberger was one of the youngest delegates at the age of 17. He said the oldest was 99-year-old former President Jimmy Carter.

“It was cool to be such a young person sharing my voice and meeting so many new people, across generations. CT had a huge age range and I think it is important to connect with people from different generations and backgrounds,” he said.

He traveled from his home in New Haven to Chicago with more than 70 others from Connecticut.

As he scrolls through those great memories, he now looks forward to his big moment.

Jacob just turned 18, just in time to cast his first vote in this historic election.

“I can’t wait to vote. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time,” Jacob said.

All the political aspects aside, he says participating in this convention was a great learning experience.

Jacob has his sights set on making a difference. He hopes to inspire his generation to do the same.

“I’ve always had the goal of making a change in my career,” he said.

Jacob says he’s not sure what his career path will be as he’s still completing college applications, but he hasn’t ruled out politics.
