Florida Power and Light is proposing a temporary rate increase in its financial recovery plan

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Florida Power and Light is outlining plans to pay for repairs after four hurricanes in 14 months.

The damage started at Idalia in August 2023, followed by Debby, Helene and Milton this year.

The company wants $1.2 billion to recoup restoration costs, plus $150 million to replenish its storm reserve.

They are asking the Florida Public Service Commission to allow a temporary surcharge on monthly bills in 2025. Their proposal shows an increase of $8 for customers in Northwest Florida, and $12 in other parts of the state, based on consumption of 1,000 kilowatts per month.

More updates will follow after the Public Service Commission meets on the proposed rates.
