Giants’ Brian Burns gets a vote after third straight loss: ‘The team needs to mature’

New season, same result for the New York Giantswho are now 2-6 after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers on “Monday Night Football.”

For the seventh time in the last eight seasons, the Giants have recorded two or fewer wins at this stage, and a newcomer to the roster isn’t happy.

Brian Brandswho was traded this offseason and extended to stay with the Giants long-term, expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance through eight games.

“The team needs to mature,” he said via NJ.com.

Burns isn’t the only Giant who can’t stomach a three-game losing streak and a record that puts them at the bottom of the NFC East.

“I think we need to show more passion as a team – or as leaders,” defensive captain Dexter Lawrence added.

STEELERS’ RUSSELL WILSON DRIVES NFL CATCH RULE CHANGE AFTER WIN OVER GIANTS

Of course, it’s still early in the season and every team has a chance to put together a winning streak that could get them back into the playoffs.

But with the rest of the NFC East included, including the 3-4 Dallas Cowboysthe Giants will need to get things rolling immediately if they want to play through January 2025.

Effort is what Burns, Lawerence and the rest of the Giants want to see, as it wasn’t on full display Monday night at Acrisure Stadium as they fell 26-18 to the Steelers.

Head coach Brian Daboll benched cornerback Deonte Banks, the team’s first-round draft pick in 2023, who again made a play showing a lack of effort after appearing on tape in last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Lawrence, usually one to keep his emotions in check, was found attacking his teammates on the sideline as the Steelers had their way with the defense all game.

“We have to play harder!” Laurens shouted. “We have to stop that game!”

Lawrence directed his ire at the secondary on the sideline, which led to him jawing back and forth before the tension dissipated.

Unfortunately for the Giants and their fan base, they have become accustomed to this feeling by mid-season, albeit in the 2022 campaign where they not only made the playoffs but also defeated the Minnesota Vikings to advance to the divisional round .

That was Daboll and GM Joe Schoen’s first year in New York, but things haven’t gone well for the franchise since then, putting their job security in question if this trend continues the rest of the year.
