Police were called to Marmion Road on Sunday

A man is in serious condition in hospital after he was stabbed while trying to help the victim of an attempted robbery, police said.

Officers were called to Marmion Road in Thorneywood, Nottinghamshire, after reports that a teenager on an e-scooter was being chased by a group of youths at around 6:25 GMT on Sunday.

Police say the man, known to the teenager, suffered a serious stab wound to the stomach shortly after intervening in nearby Beecham Avenue.

The police are appealing for camera footage, doorbell, mobile phone or dashcam footage and are calling on any witnesses to contact them.

Detectives have analyzed camera images and are conducting door-to-door searches in the area, police said.

Extra patrols have also been deployed near the scene to provide reassurance as investigations continue.

Det Insp Paul Shortt, from the force, said: “We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness as a man remains in hospital with serious injuries.

“Officers are following a number of lines of inquiry and the public can expect a police presence in the area for the remainder of the day.

“We believe there were a number of witnesses to the incident and we want to hear their stories about what happened.”
