Man accused of two recent bank robberies, caught attempting burglary

BURLINGTON, Va. (WCAX) – Burlington police say the suspect in two recent bank robberies was caught trying to break into a family home in New North End.

They say a resident discovered last Thursday that someone had removed the screens from all the windows in their home. Fortunately for the homeowner, police say they locked the windows that same day and were able to prevent the suspect from breaking in while their family slept.

Authorities are looking for 39-year-old James Plunkett of Burlington. He was caught on Ring camera footage, and he is the same suspect who police say robbed the M&T Bank on Pine Street on Saturday morning, claiming he had a bomb.

Then police say he hit the Key Bank on Bank Street around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers say they have conducted multiple searches for him but have turned up nothing so far. They also say Plunkett has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2011.
