Neurologist accused of operating ‘Pill Mill’ faces 35 charges and surrenders medical license

TAYLOR, Mich. – A neurologist facing 35 charges was in court when he surrendered his medical license.

Dr. Ram Garg, who is accused of running some Taylor Police called a nightmare pill mill that drew people from across Michigan and Ohio and was in court on Tuesday (October 29).

Garg was released on a $100,000 personal bond.

He pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon to a scheme in which he wrote fake prescriptions for dangerous opioids and then fabricated fake medical bills to rake in millions of dollars.

People keep calling Local 4 with tips about what happened at his office.

It’s the first time we see Garg in court, and now officially charged.

Four local cameras were on hand when Taylor police raided Garg’s Taylor clinic in late September with staggering allegations that the doctor was writing fake prescriptions for narcotics, highly addictive opioids, to thousands from Michigan and Ohio.

Taylor police said Garg’s clinic on Telegraph Road was known as the place where the doctor would give you prescriptions for painkillers if you needed them or not, fueling addiction and all that comes with it.

Garg was hit with 35 charges of unlawful prescribing, falsifying medical records and healthcare fraud.

The phone at the Taylor Police Department kept ringing with more information about the doctor and for people calling to thank the Taylor Police Department.

A mother who has a child in recovery from addiction spoke to us about the situation.

We also revealed for the first time that there is a bedroom in this clinic – not just a bed, but a full-fledged bedroom, which one former employee called a recovery room.

Police are investigating several allegations of sexual misconduct.
