NEW YORK, NEW YORK - OCTOBER 29: Fans interfere with Mookie Betts #50 of the Los Angeles Dodgers as he attempts to catch a fly ball in foul territory during the first inning of Game Four of the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees on Yankee Stadium on October 29, 2024 in the Bronx borough of New York City. New York Yankees fans are doing everything they can to help their team get to a Game 5 in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the bottom of the first inning of Game 4, Mookie Betts made a leaping catch against the wall and brought in a foul ball for an out, but two fans at Yankee Stadium tried to get the ball out of his glove. The play was disallowed after referees declared fan interference.

“That was one of the most aggressive ‘fan ripping the ball out of his glove (incidents)’ I have ever seen,” former MLB umpire Dale Scott told Kuty.

Both the Yankees and their fans are desperate for a win as they look to avoid a clean sweep by Los Angeles. New York seemed able to give the Dodgers a good run after going extra innings in Game 1, but since then it has only been Los Angeles.

The Dodgers won Game 2 4-2 and dominated Game 3, while their pitchers held the Yankees scoreless until the ninth inning when Alex Verdugo finally got them on the board with a two-run homer.

Los Angeles’ work on the mound has been too much for New York through three games, especially for star Aaron Judge, who singled in Game 1 but has since gone 0-for-7 with just one run on base stood.

Now on the brink of elimination, the Yankees need someone to step up and contribute more, although they would probably prefer their fans to just enjoy the game instead of trying to play their own game.
