Atlanta man arrested after firing multiple shots from Four Seasons Hotel building

A seriously injured gunman was taken into custody after firing multiple shots from a floor of the Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown Atlanta on Tuesday (October 29).

A police officer was also seriously injured when he took down the gunman, Atlanta police told NBC News.

Police said the suspected gunman fired at least once from the hotel’s 33rd floor balcony. He also shot through walls and doors of the 53-story building, but no injuries were reported. At least fifteen shots were fired.

The man had three weapons, including a pistol and a long gun. The shooting occurred after the man had an argument with an employee in the building.

Police reached the scene around 10 a.m. and officers “attempted to get the individual to come to the door to talk to them,” but the alleged shooter “refused to do so.”

He threw a gun from his balcony as police ordered him to come down. The floor was immediately evacuated and officers breached the floor to take him into custody.

Videos of the incident shared on social media showed officers standing outside the building as the man fired gunshots at them.

Other footage showed police carrying the injured man, identified as 70-year-old Jay Stevens Berger, to an ambulance.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) launched an investigation into the matter and the building was seized.
