JMU Announces Uniform NIL Program, ‘Honors1′

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – In an effort to increase name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities for student-athletes, the James Madison athletic department announced the launch of ‘Honors1.’

“The Honors1 program is an essential part of our climb to make James Madison Athletics a thriving program in this ever-evolving college athletics landscape,” JMU athletics director Matt Roan said in a news release. “The comprehensive nature of this program truly allows our student-athletes to maximize their overall experience and potential at James Madison University, and in particular the value of their name, image and likeness.”

JMU says the program aims to unify and streamline NIL opportunities for JMU student-athletes by connecting them with key stakeholders, such as businesses and organizations.

The name “Honors1” was inspired by a line from JMU’s Fight Song, “Fight for Glory, Honors Won,” which symbolizes the commitment to recognize and honor student-athletes.

Key components of the program include the launch of JMU Dukes Exchange. This will help connect student-athletes directly with companies for NIL deals. It is designed to facilitate transactions, communications and legal agreements.

The program will expand the school’s partnership with the Montpelier Collective. the organization that helps provide NIL opportunities to JMU athletes by promoting charitable initiatives.
