Kopa Trophy: Yamal names the player who will win the award next year

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has backed teammate Pau Cubarsi to take over the Kopa Trophy from him next year.

Yamal recently won the prestigious award at Monday night’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, France.

The award recognized the Spain international as the greatest U21 talent in world football.

The 17-year-old beat off competition from Real Madrid’s Arda Guler and Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo to win the award.

Yamal exchanged words with Cubarsi on social media after winning the award.

The youngster wrote in response to the defender congratulating him on his Instagram (via Managing Barca):

Yamal said: “Next year the Kopa Trophy is yours.”
