Man killed in police-involved shooting in Phillips

PHILLIPS, Maine (WABI) – A man was shot after an officer shot him in Phillips Tuesday evening.

Franklin County Dispatchers received calls for what was described as a possibly suicidal man on a bridge with a gun around 6 p.m.

When police responded, they said they found 61-year-old Lawrence Scott on the Salem Road side of the bridge.

A deputy tried to talk to Scott about getting help and repeatedly asked him to drop his weapon, but Scott reportedly refused.

Officials say Scott then raised the gun at the deputy. Then the deputy shot him.

First aid was administered, but Scott did not survive.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Clement is now on administrative leave, as is standard protocol.

The Public Prosecution Service is investigating.
