Man sentenced to eight months in prison for child sexual abuse

CHIPPEWA FALLS – A rural Sheldon man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for sexually abusing a child.

Glen A. Kirckof, 65, entered a no-contest plea in Chippewa County Court in January on two counts of fourth-degree assault and mental harm to a child in a case in which he was accused of four to have sexually abused several children for over two decades.

During a sentencing hearing Friday, Judge Steve Gibbs ordered the prison term, along with placing Kirckof on three years’ probation. Kirckof was given credit for the two days he had already served, and he was given Huber work release privileges. Kirckof must also pay $1,464 in court costs and fines, and must provide a DNA sample. He is not allowed to have any contact with the victims or their families. He must report to prison within thirty days.

A two-week trial scheduled to begin June 17 was canceled after Kirckof entered his plea in January. Three cases would come to trial together.

One of the cases concerns the sexual assault of a girl between 1999 and 2007, when the girl was between eight and fifteen years old.

That victim, now in her 30s, told investigators about the assaults in 2021, and she did a follow-up interview in May 2022.

She said the attacks happened at a home in the town of Wheaton. She described multiple sexual assaults and locations where the assaults occurred, going back to when she was 8 years old.

Kirckof was also charged in a case involving a girl who was between 12 and 14 years old at the time of the attacks; she is now in her twenties. She also described multiple instances in which Kirckof sexually assaulted her between December 2011 and July 2013.

Each victim’s allegations are nearly identical in describing the attacks.

Kirckof was indicted in May 2021 on four counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and repeated sexual assault of a child. In that case, a 13-year-old girl said Kirckof sexually assaulted her in the town of Colburn, saying it started when she was nine.

Although Kirckof has a Sheldon address located in Rusk County, he lives in the town of Ruby, located in the northwest corner of Chippewa County.
