Man jailed for raping woman in her own home, with victim’s bravery praised by judge

Police launched an investigation and Critchley, aged 31, of Meadow Park, Wesham, was arrested on suspicion and later charged with the rape of a woman (aged 16 or over).

He denied the charges and pleaded not guilty. After a week-long trial, he was found guilty.

DC Stu Kane, of the West Division, said: “Critchley’s victim has shown incredible courage throughout this trial, despite the effect his despicable actions have undoubtedly had on her. I definitely commend her for the strength she has shown.

‘Critchley’s actions that morning were absolutely abhorrent – he attacked his victim in her own home – the place where she should have felt safest.

“I welcome the sentence imposed on him this week which reflects the seriousness of his offending.

“Finally, for the victims of a sex crime, please know that we will listen to you, we will investigate and we will do everything we can to bring the person responsible to justice.”
