The alarm of all alarms is on; The world is facing a very dangerous cycle

Carbon dioxide is accumulating in the atmosphere faster than ever before during human existence and has increased by more than 10 percent in just two decades, according to a report published on the World Meteorological Organization website.

It added that carbon dioxide emissions caused by large forest fires, as well as a possible reduction in the amount of carbon absorbed by forests, combined with high levels of carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels, had contributed.

”This should ring alarm bells among decision makers. It is clear that we are not on track to meet the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming and reducing temperatures to less than two degrees Celsius, with a target of 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. It is not just a statistic, because a temperature increase of just a fraction of a degree affects our lives and the planet,” said Celeste Saulo, Director General of the World Meteorological Organization.

The WMO emissions report is also published to provide information to the UN Climate Change Conference.

In the 20 years since the report was published, carbon dioxide emissions have increased by 11.4 percent.

The report warns us that we are dealing with a potentially dangerous cycle. In the near future, climate change could cause ecosystems to become greater sources of harmful gas emissions, warns WMO Assistant Secretary General Ko Barrett.
