The rape and murder of a medical student in Calcutta a few months ago shocked and angered the nation. Actress Vidya Balan, who was promoting her upcoming film, spoke about it Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in the city of joy.

The actress said, “I always feel that Kolkata and West Bengal in the true sense of the word have immense respect for women. I was shocked when I heard the news, just like everyone else.”

Balan added: “I couldn’t believe such a heinous crime could have happened in this country. How can such an incident happen in the land of goddesses? I can’t understand it.”

Balance saw a massive increase in her influence and after the success of Paa in 2009, there was no looking back for the actress. However, in an interview with Humans Of Bombay, she revealed how she was shamed by someone she was close to.

She said, “You know, I think it’s always the people who hurt you the most, and all I’m saying is, I’m not talking about family here. It’s not relevant at this point who the person is, but suffice it to say that when someone means a lot to you and they’re super critical of shaming you when they just don’t support you; it’s not fun. And the only thing you can do at that moment is walk away.

And now, in an interview with Galata India, she opened up about how she has struggled to be skinny all her life. Balan said, “I have been dieting and exercising like crazy, and sometimes I would lose weight, and it would come back… and then early this year I met a nutrition group called Amura (Amura Health) in Chennai. They said, ‘It’s just inflammation; it is not thick.”
