Crestline man arrested after 15 bullet holes found in Crawford County home

CRAWFORD COUNTY – A 30-year-old Crestline man was arrested Tuesday on assault charges after 15 bullet holes were found in a Whetstone Township home, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Monday morning, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident of the 1500 block of Olentangy Road in Whetstone Township, northwest of Galion.

The property owner reported that his home had been shot multiple times. Officers found approximately fifteen bullet holes in the home.

Officers secured the home and requested the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist in processing the scene. According to police, officers remained on scene at BCI until approximately 11 p.m.

Authorities found several spent shell casings around the exterior of the home and recovered several bullets found inside the home. During the investigation, deputies were able to obtain security footage of suspects who were in the home during the shooting, according to the sheriff.

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for Daniel P. Looney, 30, of Crestline. Looney was arrested without incident by Ontario police when deputies alerted them that Looney was under their jurisdiction.

Looney, whose address is listed in Bucyrus Municipal Court records as 1034 Bibich Court, was taken to the Crawford County Justice Center. No bond had been set as of Wednesday morning, according to court records, which listed the charge as a second-degree felony.

Officers also served a search warrant at Looney’s home, according to the sheriff’s department.

During the search, officers found and seized firearms, ammunition and electronic devices. Officers were assisted at the scene by the Crestline Police Department, the Crestline Fire Department and the Crawford County Dog Warden, the sheriff’s office said.

This case is still pending with the Sheriff’s Office and a report will be filed with the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of additional charges against individuals involved in this case.

Sheriff Scott Kent asked anyone with information about the case to contact detectives at the sheriff’s office 419-562-7906.
