If you have a voting by post and you haven’t mailed it yet. You may want to drop it by or vote in person. The election is less than a week away and in Florida your ballot must be received by Election Day.

If something delays the mail or there are unforeseen events or weather conditions, your vote may not be counted. The US Postal Service recommends that you mail in your completed ballot at least a week before your state’s deadline, and in the Sunshine State that time has passed.

From Wednesday morning almost 2.4 million voters have mailed in their ballots out of 3.5 million ballots requested.

What is the deadline for mailing my ballot in Florida?

Mail-in ballots must be completed and physically received by election officials by 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 5. Postmarks do not count unless you send your ballot from abroad.

Vote by mail, ballots from absent military or foreign citizens have until November 15 to submit their ballot, but it must be postmarked by November 5.

If I haven’t mailed my ballot, can I drop it in a mailbox?

Yes. Drop boxes called “secure ballot collection stations” will be placed at early voting locations and other authorized locations to allow voters to return their completed ballots by mail. They are open at certain hours and are under camera surveillance. Check your local Supervisor of the election website for locations.

You can also drop off your ballot at your local Supervisor of Elections office. You cannot hand it over to poll workers at polling places, but you can hand it in there and vote in person on a regular ballot.

If I haven’t mailed my ballot, can I vote at a polling station on Election Day?

Yes. As long as you have not submitted your ballot by mail, you can go to an early voting location or your polling place on Election Day and vote. You must bring your ballot, marked or unmarked, to turn in before voting on a regular ballot.

If you do not bring this, the election office supervisor will need to verify that your ballot has not yet been returned. If they cannot verify it, you may still vote on a provisional ballot. This ballot will be counted once the status of your mail-in ballot has been determined.

Do not vote in person AND do not mail in a ballot, as that is against Florida election law.

What should I do if my ballot is damaged?

If your ballot arrives or becomes damaged, contact your county Supervisor of the Bureau of Elections to get a replacement.

Can someone drop off my ballot by mail for me?

Yes, with some limitations.

Under Florida law, the number of signed, sealed ballots one person can possess is limited to two, in addition to their own ballots, except for immediate family members. Violation of this is a criminal offence.

How can I be sure my Florida ballot has been counted?

You can (and should) verify that your ballot has been received and counted by checking your county’s Vote-by-Mail Ballot Information and Status Search. You can find them all here dos.myflorida.com/elections.
