Maple Heights Police Chief Todd Hansen said officers were called to the scene Signature Health at 21100 Southgate Park Blvd. around 1:20 PM on April 24.

According to the chief, Halasz was in an enclosed area with a 49-year-old male caregiver when he stabbed the caregiver.

The attendant ran from the room and Halasz chased him and was able to stab him several more times before another employee threw a chair at him.

Police said the security officer at the scene was then able to confront Halasz and subdue him at gunpoint until officers arrived.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and Chief Hansen said he suffered injuries to his upper body and chest.

Maple Heights police commended the actions of Signature Health employees, who worked together to stop the attacker and care for the victim until first responders arrived.

“Signature Health’s staff deserves high accolades for their heroic actions in times of danger,” police said.
