Several schools in lockdown after “swatting” incidents

(WFSB) – Multiple school districts across the state received non-credible threats Wednesday, prompting lockdowns at several high schools.

Ansonia High School was placed on lockdown after a “swatting” call reporting an armed suspect at the school at 20 Pulaski Highway.

Police responded quickly to the scene and after a thorough investigation determined there were no credible threats.

The lockdown has now been lifted and schools will discharge students according to their normal schedule.

Naugatuck High School was also placed on lockdown due to a non-credible threat involving an armed individual reportedly standing in front of the school at 543 Rubber Avenue.

This information was received through a veterans hotline.

Police are currently investigating the origin of the call but have assured the community there is no ongoing threat.

The lockdown has been lifted and normal activities have resumed.

Additionally, Southbury Police responded to a third-party threat against their high school by initiating a lockdown while authorities conducted their investigation.

At 10:25 a.m., police cleared the building and confirmed there was no credible threat.

This threat has been traced to sources outside the state and is linked to a pattern of previous swatting incidents.

In response, there will be an increased police presence at the school to help allay fears among students, parents and staff. School counselors and social workers are present at all locations for students who need support.

Watertown High School was also on lockdown due to a non-credible threat.

Police said no threats have been identified and no shooter has been located.

The school was dismissed as normal with an increased police presence.

Detectives continue to investigate and work with other jurisdictions.
