This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen the Marantz SA-12SE sell for. Before Peter Tyson’s latest discount, the lowest price we saw it in store for was £2,195, all the way back in May 2023.

The only minor caveat is that we haven’t had the device for testing yet, so we can’t personally confirm the audio quality.

However, given the deep discounts and positive experiences we’ve had with other recent Marantz players, including the Marantz SA-10 – which received a perfect five-star rating when we reviewed it in 2018 – we feel comfortable bringing the SA-12SE deal to the attention of our readers.

Technically impressive, the Marantz SA-12SE is built on the Japanese audio brand’s proprietary SACDM-3 mechanism – which is custom built in-house and designed to optimize performance for both CD and SACD.

Thanks to the addition of Marantz Music Mastering, it can also function as a DAC, playing PCM signals up to 384 kHz/32-bit, along with DSD256/11.2 MHz.

For those unfamiliar, SACD is a specialized physical disc format launched in 1999 and jointly developed by Sony and Philips that is designed to provide higher resolution audio, multi-channel support, and longer playback times than standard CDs .

We’ve seen a number of other players supporting the format, including the even more expensive, £11,650, Esoteric K-05XD we awarded it five stars in April, due out this year.

If that doesn’t tempt you, don’t worry. Although the annual Black Friday The sales event doesn’t officially start until the end of November. The Marantz discount is one of many early deals that have already appeared.

We expect a range of hi-fi savings to continue to emerge over the next month in the run-up to the big day. We keep track of them all in our main line best hifi offers guide, so be sure to check back often Which hi-fi? regularly.
