Councilwoman Carol Berz announced her candidacy for re-election to the Chattanooga City Council, which represents District 6, on Wednesday.

Her campaign read: “Councilwoman Berz, an established community leader and small business owner, is committed to ensuring that everyone who lives in the District can thrive and is committed to the legislative work that helps make that possible. “

“Representing the people of District 6 is a privilege. My goal is to ensure that everyone in the district – no matter where they live – can live her or his best life,” said Council Member Berz. “We have accomplished so much, and the work is not done yet. Together we ensure that everyone is proud to live, work and play in District 6.

“My priorities are simple: good jobs, safe neighborhoods, smart development and a responsive government. And we must approach these issues in a way that benefits everyone, not just certain neighborhoods. This is how we allow District 6 to thrive.”

She added, “Every Chattanoogan deserves a great quality of life, and economic opportunity is a big part of that.”

The campaign stated: “Since Day 1 in office, Carol Berz has served with integrity and taken action to create a more responsive, transparent local government. She was an integral part of the 2023 opening of the City of Chattanooga Midtown campus, making city services more accessible to all of Chattanooga. She was also instrumental in the establishment and continued operations of the Chattanooga Hamilton County Family Justice Center, located in District 6.

“As Chair of Finance and Budget, she was instrumental in creating an online ‘open checkbook’ for the City of Chattanooga so all residents can see how their tax dollars are being spent.

“Under her leadership, a diverse range of economic developments have grown, spanning healthcare, automotive, food, incubators, general office services and travel. Berz has helped lead the development and success of several key initiatives, from zoning protections to infrastructure development to the creation of Midtown Connect, a public-private partnership focused on economic development and quality of life for the entire community.”

Councilor Berz said, “I am proud of the work we have done together. It illustrates the momentum District 6 currently has. I look forward to continuing this work.”

The Chattanooga City Council elections are scheduled for March 4, 2025.
