Miami Dolphins Defense Dealing with Key Injuries

The Miami Dolphins face a crucial game against the Buffalo Bills this weekend, and they are staring at the possibility of doing so without two of their key defensive players.

Head coach Mike McDaniel didn’t have any definitive answers about interior lineman Zach Sieler or safety Jevon Holland before practice Wednesday, but it was certainly easy to read between the lines and not a good feeling about the prospects either.

Sieler is struggling with an eye injury, which is the result of an injection he received during training last Thursday. The good news is that the injury, which NFL Network reported involved the orbital bone, did not require surgery.

“He’s one of many (where) I won’t know until closer to the game,” McDaniel said. “And that’s just based on the fact that you have to project… and he’s doing well. And we know him as a player and as a person. He really wants to play in this game, so he’ll do everything he can And if he can’t do it, it’s because he can’t do it.”

With Holland, he suffered a knee injury in the first half of the 28-27 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and did not return.

The injury occurred in Holland’s first game since suffering a broken bone in his left hand during the Week 5 win against the New England Patriots, the week before the Dolphins’ bye.

Asked about Holland’s status, McDaniel said: “Overall I’m not really worried for the season. It’s not important, but for this match he’s working hard to make himself available. He won’t be training today, But that will be a challenge.” process all week, and a process that he has been living here, trying to gain the right to be available for this game.”
