Telus lines targeted by thieves in Abbotsford: police

Tel loop lines are being targeted by wire thieves in Abbotsford, according to police, who say the crimes have caused more than $100,000 in damage and affected people’s ability to call 911.

Abbotsford police said in a news release Tuesday that there has been an “uptick” in these incidents in recent weeks.

“AbbyPD reminds Abbotsford residents that all Telus employees or contractors working on overhead telecommunications lines will operate vehicles and equipment that are fully identifiable to the organizations to which they belong,” the police statement said.

“AbbyPD encourages the public to report suspicious activity on or around overhead telecommunications lines in their neighborhood to law enforcement.”

The department is requesting dashcam footage from the area of ​​the two most recent thefts. The dates, times and locations where researchers are requesting videos are:

  • Thursday, October 17, between 5 and 7:30 a.m. on McCallum Road between McConnell and Vye Road.
  • Wednesday, October 23, between 4 and 7:30 a.m. on Sumas Mountain Road between McKee and Dawson Road.
