Montgomery High student found with loaded gun in locker arrested, police say

Santa Rosa police arrested a 16-year-old student at Montgomery High School Wednesday morning after discovering a loaded handgun in his school locker, authorities said in a news release.

For the second time in as many weeks, a teenager has been arrested at a Santa Rosa high school after authorities found him on campus with a loaded gun.

A 16-year-old Montgomery High School student was arrested Wednesday after the discovery of a loaded handgun in his school locker, according to Santa Rosa police.

The teen is being held at the juvenile detention facility on suspicion of possession of a loaded handgun on campus and minor possession.

Police said they were called to the school shortly before 10:45 a.m. after an administrator reported a possible firearm on campus.

The report came from a report on the STOPit app saying three 16-year-old male students may have had a firearm, officials said, adding that the school immediately involved police.

Responding police officers found all three boys and initially detained them. However, after questioning, only one of them was determined to possess a gun, officials said.

A handgun and a loaded magazine were recovered from the boy’s safe, officials said.

Last week, on October 24, Santa Rosa Police arrested another 16-year-old studentthis time at Elsie Allen High School, who was found with a loaded gun and ammunition in his backpack.

No injuries were reported in either incident and all weapons were confiscated by police.

In a note sent to parents of Montgomery High School students on Wednesday, Principal April Santos said the initial tip for the STOPit app also included a photo of the gun.

“Students who bring weapons to campus will be held accountable by the school for their actions, and law enforcement will be contacted,” Santos said. “Law enforcement and school officials imposed consequences on students and held them accountable for their actions.”

She added that in a second, unrelated incident on campus on Wednesday, “Two students with a history of conflict got into an altercation, which was quickly de-escalated by staff. Both students are currently being addressed and appropriate consequences will be imposed.

“Despite the previous incidents, the campus was safe and all students involved were spoken to. The rest of the students had continued with their day as usual,” Santos said.
