ECU police investigate campus rape in a dorm

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – East Carolina University police say they are investigating the rape of a student in a dorm.

A campus alert says they were notified of the assault last night around 11:30 p.m. The alert says the rape occurred on September 30 at Tyler Hall.

There was no explanation why reporting the crime was delayed by almost a month.

A crime report listed it as a second-degree forcible rape and that it was an open investigation.

According to the alert, the university has also received reports of the same person who “inappropriately touched two different victims at off-campus parties earlier this month.”

ECU’s list of crimes on campus also shows a second-degree forcible rape in Clement Hall that occurred late Monday afternoon. No campus alert has been issued for this crime and it remains an open investigation.
