Seven arrested for assaulting farmer students in Yogyakarta – Archipelago

Yogyakarta city police have arrested seven men suspected of being involved in the assault of two students at a farmers (Islamic boarding school) in Yogyakarta on October 23

Police have alleged that one of the suspects provoked his accomplice and provided alcoholic drinks before the attack, which turned out to be misdirected, according to city police chief Comr. Aditya Surya Dharma said this on Tuesday in Yogyakarta, as reported by compass.id.

Two Pesantren Al-Munawwir students were attacked on the night of October 23 while eating at a street vendor near a cafe on Jl. Parangtritis.

Aditya explained that prior to the attack on the two students, an incident took place at the cafe from late Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, which appeared to be related. The commotion involved people believed to be drunk, leaving two people injured and the interior of the cafe damaged.

The two farmers Students were eating when they were suddenly attacked by the same group that had caused the earlier disturbances, the police chief said.

Aditya stated that the victims were attacked with blunt objects, wooden planks, helmets and bare hands, and some perpetrators also used sharp weapons.
