South Bend Common Council wants to annex part of the county

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -City leaders want to annex part of St. Joseph County, creating space in the city for HRP Construction. The land will provide space for an office and equipment storage.

The property will have access to the city’s police and fire departments and connect their own water and sewer lines to the city’s.

Canneth Lee, who represents South Bend’s 1st District. explains how such actions not only attract businesses to the area, but also give them a reason to stay.

“I think having that open field and having the resources and being able to connect to what the city offers to that area is an incentive for the business community to come and build in that area and continue to strengthen South Bend and making South Bend one of the best places,” Lee said.

The resolution to annex the property and the amended ordinance were both forwarded to the South Bend Common Council for consideration by the commission as a whole.

If the Council approves the resolution adopting the Cleveland Poppy Annexation area, they will have to approve the amended zoning ordinance to include the newly adopted part of the city.

The bill will go to the full Council on November 13.
