Former sheriff of Laurens Co. inducted into the S.C. Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame

COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) – A former Laurens County sheriff was inducted into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Sheriff R. Eugene Johnson of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was recognized along with six other officers.

The ceremony recognized individuals in law enforcement who have a proven record of excellence with a meritorious achievement award and recognition into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame.

The inductees have an exemplary track record and at least 25 years of service. Nominees must not be currently employed by an agency or have been employed within the past five years. They can also be nominated posthumously.

“It is a privilege to be here today as we honor these incredible law enforcement professionals who have dedicated their lives to the service of others,” said Robert G. Woods IV, director of the S.C. Department of Public Safety and chairman of the SC Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame Advisory Committee in a release. “Their induction into the Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame will ensure that their sacrifices will be remembered for generations to come.”

Six other officers were also recognized:

  • Colonel Anna J. Amos with the South Carolina State Transportation Police
  • Chief Wendell Davis of the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety
  • Lieutenant Horace P. “Hoss” Horton Jr. with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
  • Lieutenant MB “Sonny” Huggins III with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
  • Chief Williams C. “Bill” Mobley, York Police Department
  • South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Director Alvin A. Taylor.
