Richmond RCMP has remained tight-lipped about mischief investigation involving Mercedes-Benz

Mounties in Richmond are asking the public for help in locating the occupants of a vehicle they say has information related to a mischief investigation, but they say they can’t share more details about the mischief in question or how it compares to a study that started last year.

The incident occurred in March of this year, Richmond RCMP said in a news release last week.

However, the case file number is 2023-40077. The first four numbers indicate the year the file was opened.

CTV News reached out to the detachment for clarification on whether the press release contained a typographical error, and received confirmation earlier this week that it did not.

“To confirm, the file number and date are correct,” said Cpl. Adrianna O’Malley in an email to CTV News. “No further information will be provided regarding the investigation at this time.”

O’Malley would not comment on the nature of the incident that occurred in March, nor would she say what the original 2023 incident was that sparked the investigation.

“Generally speaking, incidents reported separately may be investigated under the same case umbrella if there are factors that suggest a possible connection,” O’Malley said.

The vehicle police are looking for is a white Mercedes-Benz with several modifications, including a black and white aftermarket hood, a black rear spoiler, a black roof and silver five-star wheels, Richmond RCMP said in a news release Friday.

Police included three short videos of the vehicle in the release, but provided very little information about why they are seeking information about it.

“Richmond RCMP are investigating the disturbance that occurred in downtown Richmond in March 2024,” the news release reads.

“Richmond RCMP believe that a person or persons associated with this vehicle may have information that could be helpful to this investigation.”

Police said their investigation is “active and ongoing” and asked anyone with information to call them at 604-278-1212.

“This vehicle has several features, including an aftermarket hood, which we think someone may recognize,” O’Malley said in the release.

“We are asking anyone who recognizes this vehicle to contact us.”
