KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Chiefs lost season-ending tight end Jody Fortson to an injury late in Sunday’s 27-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Fortson, who tried to recover an onside kick in the final minute of the match, tore his ACL and meniscus, he revealed in an Instagram story on Wednesday.

“So incredibly grateful for the love and support I have (received) over the past few days… if you didn’t know, I suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in the last 40 seconds of the game last Sunday,” Fortson wrote. “All I can say is that I know exactly what it feels like to fight and claw your way from the bottom, so this place is all too familiar.”

Fortson was signed by the Chiefs on September 26 after being released by the Miami Dolphins in August. After joining the practice squad, he was named to the active roster on October 4 and appeared in each of the Chiefs’ final three games.

He had one reception for five yards in those three games.

“What I can also assure (sic) is that this will NOT be my final resting place. Those who know me KNOW that I never laid down and just gave up everything and I’m damn sure I’m not going to start now!” Fortson’s message went further. ‘If you rock with me, keep rocking! We will bounce back like we always have. If not, then there is no love lost and not found (rose emoji).”

With Fortson headed to injured reserve at season’s end, his vacant roster spot was filled by defensive end Joshua Uche, whom Kansas City traded a 2026 sixth-round pick to the New England Patriots to acquire on Monday.
