Drugs, weapons found during vehicle stop

A vehicle stop early Wednesday led to the arrest of a 44-year-old man on firearms charges.

During a vehicle stop in the 1300 block of Richmond Avenue, a male driver showed signs of drug intoxication and was arrested.

While searching the vehicle, police found two guns, assorted ammunition, a loaded magazine, a box and a variety of knives.

The 44-year-old suspect was transported to Brandon Police Headquarters and held in a detention cell, before being released with a promise after sobriety. He will appear in court on November 4.

The lack of a seat belt will incur additional costs

A 29-year-old motorist who decided not to wear a seat belt was arrested on drug and weapons charges.

During a vehicle stop in the 300 block of Sixth Street in the early morning hours of Wednesday, police discovered the male driver of a vehicle was not wearing a seat belt. He was also observed carrying a knife in the waistband of his trousers and was arrested.

During a search after the arrest, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance that had been divided into four separate packages.

The 29-year-old was released with a promise to appear in court on December 12.

Unrest leads to the man’s arrest

A 32-year-old man was arrested Oct. 29 after an incident at a home on Garwood Drive.

At 10:55 a.m., Brandon police responded to the home after a report of a disturbance. One of the people involved – the 32-year-old man – had an unsubstantiated arrest warrant for failing to appear in court and making threats. He was subsequently arrested, taken to a BPS detention cell and held overnight in court on October 30.

Police chase suspect

Brandon police responded Tuesday to a complainant’s report about a male suspect who allegedly sent numerous text messages in violation of a no-communication condition of his probation order.

Police say the messages contained threats and the suspect was believed to be near the 1500 block of Stickney Avenue.

Police encountered a 45-year-old male suspect who reportedly attempted to flee and resisted arrest during the pursuit. He was arrested and taken to the BPS detention cells, where he was held overnight on Wednesday for a court hearing.

Pedestrian control arrest

A pedestrian stop by Brandon police led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man in the 100 block of Princess Avenue East on Oct. 29.

During the check, the police noted that an arrest warrant had been issued for the man. A search of his home upon arrest revealed that the suspect was in possession of a prohibited weapon, which violated the terms of his probation. He was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance. He was held Wednesday night for a court hearing.

Theft under $5,000

A 37-year-old woman was arrested after a complaint of stolen property.

Police received a complaint about a woman who allegedly stole $110 worth of items from a local business. The police were able to identify the suspect and found the woman in her home.

She was arrested and later released on a bond, with a court appearance scheduled for December 23.
