Etowah County judge encourages young people to get involved in elections

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Election officials in Etowah County are preparing for a large turnout in the Tuesday, Nov. 5 election.

Etowah County Judge Scott Hassell says this election is a great opportunity for young people to learn how to serve others.

Judge Hassell talks about involvement and learning how government actually works. He says Etowah County has 60 students who will participate as poll workers in this year’s election, including high school students who are 18 years old and registered voters who work as regular poll workers.

Hassell says this is a great opportunity for young people to put what they learn about democracy into practice.

“As we were doing the training a few weeks ago, I always tell the kids how important that is and how important it is what they’re doing this particular year. It may not seem that important to them today, but to participate in this election, which could potentially be a historic election for us as a nation. They become part of history,” Hassell said.

Judge Hassell says he has more than enough poll workers for Tuesday night.
