NYPD: Woman, 44, dies in pedestrian crash in Staten Island’s New Dorp

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – A 44-year-old woman died Wednesday evening after she was struck by a car while walking at a busy intersection in New Dorp.

According to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, police responded to the pedestrian who was struck at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and New Dorp Lane around 10:28 p.m.

According to a preliminary investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad, a 44-year-old woman was walking eastbound on Hylan in the left lane of westbound Hylan Boulevard when she was struck by a 2012 Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on Hylan.

EMS responded and transported the 44-year-old woman to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, where she died, the police spokeswoman said.

The 18-year-old man driving the Nissan remained at the scene, the police spokeswoman said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues, the police spokeswoman said.
