Man shot in arm during gun attack

A man was taken to hospital for a suspected gunshot wound following an attack in Coalisland, County Tyrone.

The man, who is in his 40s, told police he was approached by two men while sitting in a car in the city some time before 7pm GMT on Wednesday.

He reported that a suspected firearm was inserted through the window of his vehicle and he was shot in the arm.

The man was treated at hospital, but police say his injury is not life-threatening.

“It is devastating that someone would be attacked in this way, especially in the early evening when the area would have been busy with shoppers and commuters,” a PSNI detective said.

“There is no place in our society for this type of vigilante justice and we are fortunate that the outcome was not much more serious.”

Police said they are particularly keen to interview witnesses who were in The Lines area of ​​Coalisland, from Canal Quay to the shop car park, between 6pm and 6.40pm GMT.
