Several people were injured in a high-speed TTC crash last night

At least eight were injured and one person is facing charges after an overnight high-speed crash involving a TTC bus early Thursday morning in North York.

The driver of a TTC bus and several passengers were injured in the crash near Yonge and Finch, where a pickup truck reportedly crashed into the transit vehicle at high speed around 4:20 a.m.

Police allege the driver of the pickup, who was also injured in the crash, fled the scene but was later arrested.

Six people were taken to hospital, three of whom were treated at a trauma center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and three others suffered minor injuries.

Interim TTC CEO Greg Percy issued a statement about the accident, acknowledging that “shortly after 4 a.m. this morning one of our buses was involved in a serious collision in the area of Yonge and Finch.”

“The operator was transported to hospital along with a number of customers who were on the bus. I share everyone’s concerns about the well-being of our colleague and our customers. Our thoughts are with them all at this time.”

Percy assured passengers and employees that safety “is the most important thing to me,” adding that “today’s incident is a sad reminder of the challenges the TTC faces every day on the roadways.”

“We will provide support to the operator and any employee in need as a result of this incident,” Percy said, adding that the TTC will also continue to assist Toronto police in their investigation.
