Scattered activity on Halloween and Friday, drying up over the weekend

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Thursday has the potential to be the wettest day we’ve had in SWLA in a while! However, rain chances appear to be drying up by the weekend.

There will be some cloud cover, with a few showers possible through Thursday morning, and maybe even a few stray storms heading into lunch. Activity will continue to develop into better coverage of showers through the afternoon, with scattered thunderstorms also likely. Models are forecasting a SWLA of less than an inch to as much as 2 inches through Friday, so how humid the location will be will depend on the location as sporadic showers and storms develop.

An umbrella or rain gear is a good idea to bring for the day.

Now the big question: will it rain on Trick-Or-Treating?

Some models are calling for storm and shower activity to start to subside towards the evening hours, making it a little easier to get around without an umbrella, but the ground will most likely be wet in many areas. Other models expect there to be some showers and a few storms early on, so keep an eye on your radar and it might not be a bad idea to postpone trick or treating for an hour or two. You may want to have a backup plan for outdoor festivities, just in case the rain lasts a little longer.

We will likely remain dry this weekend, leaving room for additional Trunk-Or-Treat events, but temperatures are not expected to drop as the front dissipates. A stronger front could push through early next week, increasing the chance of rain again.

The tropics are largely calm for now, but there is at least one area to keep an eye on in the southwestern Caribbean, where broad low pressure could develop over the next few days. It could become a tropical depression this weekend as it slowly drifts north, so we will keep a close eye on its progress, but at this time this is not expected to be a problem for SWLA.
