NY State Trooper Shot During Traffic Stop; suspect still at large (reports)

A New York State Trooper was shot during a traffic stop Wednesday evening, according to multiple reports.

That’s what the authorities said New York Post that the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. on the Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead, Long Island. A state trooper stopped a black Dodge Charger and was shot by a person in the vehicle, sources told the Post.

NBC Police believe the suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Officials said they were in a vehicle with the temporary New Jersey tag NJ 997636T.

The soldier, who has not yet been identified, reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was listed in stable condition at Nassau University Medical Center. A fellow New York State Trooper provided aid before the injured trooper was rushed to the hospital. ABC rreports.

Further details, including the circumstances of the traffic stop, have not been released. An investigation is underway.
