Police investigate bomb threat at Papillion Middle School

PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) – Papillion Police responded to a bomb threat at a high school Thursday morning.

In a news release, Papillion La Vista Community School officials said police, along with bomb detection dogs, conducted a thorough search of the area and found “no credible threats.”

The incident happened shortly after 8 a.m. at Liberty Middle School

To evacuate students, authorities temporarily blocked traffic on Highway 370. The students were then escorted back across the highway to another school.

Once students returned, school activities resumed as normal, according to the release.

School officials told parents that students can be picked up after 11 a.m. Thursday. Supervisors are available for students.

The incident comes a few days after a ‘swatting’ call led to a closure Monday morning at Millard South High School.

Dear parents/guardians,

Papillion Police, along with Omaha’s bomb detection dogs, have completed their thorough search of Liberty Middle School. No credible threats were found and the building has been cleared for re-entry.

Current status: Students are being returned to Liberty Middle School by staff and law enforcement. Regular operations will resume once students return. Attendance will be recorded upon return to Liberty

If necessary, students can be picked up after 11am. We understand that this morning may have been stressful for students and families, and our counseling staff is available for any students who wish to talk.

The Papillion Police Department coordinated with us and temporarily blocked traffic on Highway 370 to ensure students could cross safely, both for the evacuation and return to school.

We appreciate the assistance of the police and everyone who helped make this crossing a success.
