Sheetz says it will open a location in this Macomb County community

Following city council approval, Sheetz said Thursday it will open a location in Fraser.

The Fraser store is planned for the southwest corner of 14 Mile and Utica roads, according to a news release from the 24-hour gas/convenience store chain. Fraser council voted Wednesday in favor of a conditional rezoning of the property.

“We are grateful for the lively and passionate dialogue at last night’s meeting and for the opportunity to work with local officials and residents to show that we belong in their communities,” said Justin Mandel, the agency’s regional director of real estate company, in the Thursday release. “We look forward to supporting Fraser through meaningful job creation, food bank donations, partnerships with local organizations and more.”

The first gas station and convenience store in Michigan opened to much fanfare in Romulus in August. In mid-October, the Altoona, Pennsylvania-based company announced locations planned for 31925 Van Dyke, Warren; 19001 E. Nine Mile, Eastpointe, and 2103 W. Michigan Ave., Ypsilanti.

Sheetz previously said it would open two locations in Taylor, an additional store in Warren and others in Macomb and Chesterfield Township. Sheetz is also asking to build on a 3.83-acre parcel in Farmington Hills, but some community members protest against the developmentciting potential public safety concerns.

Sheetz President and CEO Travis Sheetz previously told The Detroit News that the company plans to open 60 locations in Michigan and establish an office in Farmington Hills over the next five to six years.

The company operates more than 750 stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina and Michigan. Sheetz offers made-to-order sandwiches and salads, which are ordered via touchscreen terminals. All Sheetz supermarkets are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
